Peter Burge's Iconic Original Baggy Green Returns to Tigerland

Some players never take a break from cricket, and Trent Conwell is undoubtedly one of these dedicated individuals. During a memorable trip to the UK last year, Trent seized a remarkable opportunity that would resonate with cricket enthusiasts and historians alike. He successfully convinced the prestigious Royal Household Cricket Club to loan the iconic baggy cap that once belonged to Redlands Tigers’ favourite son, Peter Burge. This particular cap, worn by Burge during the year 1961, is not just a piece of clothing; it is a symbol of excellence and a testament to Burge's illustrious career.

Peter Burge was a prominent figure in Australian cricket, having played 42 Test matches for Australia between 1955 and 1966. Throughout his remarkable career, he showcased his exceptional talent by scoring four centuries against the formidable England team, a feat that remains a significant highlight in the annals of cricket history. His contributions to the game have left an indelible mark, and the baggy cap he wore during his playing days serves as a cherished artefact that embodies his legacy. Today, this cap now takes pride of place in the Clubhouse, where it is not only a reminder of Burge's achievements but also an inspiration for current and future generations of cricketers.

In addition to this exciting acquisition, the Royal Household Cricket Club has expressed a keen interest in fostering a friendly rivalry with the Redlands Tigers. They are looking to organise a social match next year, which would coincide perfectly with the highly anticipated Ashes 2025 tour. Players and fans alike are encouraged to reach out to Trent if they are interested in participating in this unique event, which promises to be a celebration of cricketing camaraderie and sportsmanship. Such initiatives not only strengthen the bonds within the cricket community but also ensure that the spirit of the game continues to thrive for years to come.
